Online DVD Rental FAQ

How does this site work?

BestDVDrentals.com contains a huge database with companies and the available plans they have. By using our proprietary PlanMatch™ technology we are able to match your criteria with the right company.

By using the simple search you can select your country and the amount of DVDs you would like to have at home any time during your membership. We use the unlimited plans by default.

By clicking advanced search you can select more advanced options to search in our database.

  • Allows you to search in companies that offer weekend (rent DVDs for a weekend only) and prepaid (you pay for an x amount of movies upfront) plans.
  • Search by your budget. If you are willing to only spend a certain amount of money per month on this, our proprietary PlanMatch™ technology will show you the possibilities.

If you are eager on trial periods we also offer the possibility to search on those.

How to choose between brick and mortar DVD rental and online DVD rental?

Although online DVD renting has its advantages you might not enjoy the full benefits of it and might consider continuing to use your local video store. Online DVD rental companies do send the discs to you by a postal mail service but you still need to send the discs back. So a trip to the local mailbox or post office is still required.

You will also need to consider if online DVD rentals really save you money if you don’t want to pay for the convenience alone. Consider carefully how many movies you are currently renting and how much those cost you.

How does online DVD renting work?

When you have found the online DVD rental company and the plan that fits you best you will have to sign up.

Then the following steps will need to be done in order to receive your DVDs at home:

  • Add DVDs to your queue, because it’s possible that not all movies you want are available you will need to create a list of movies you’d like to see. The company will send you the movies from your list, and give priority to movies high on your list
  • You receive the DVDs in a special envelope with an additional envelope included to send them back. Receiving them and sending is free, no postal fees apply.
  • Once you are done viewing the movie you use the special envelope and put it in the mail.
  • As soon as the company has received your return it will ship another movie from your list.

If you have selected a plan that allows you to have e.g. three movies out it means that you can keep three DVD movies at home any time and you only have to return them once you decide to cancel your plan.

What are the major advantages?

  • Rent from you home and select whatever you want. No need to be ashamed if you want to rent Bambi, an adult movie or any other movie that might make you blush. There is no personal contact and movies will be discretely shipped according to your list.
  • Usually larger collection than your average video store. The big companies have an enormous collection; your local video store is simply too small to compete.
  • No late fees and due dates! If you select an e.g. ‘three movie out’ plan you can keep these three movies till you cancel the plan
  • If the postal service is quick and so are you, you have possibility to save money. Theoretically it’s possible to rent about 12 movies a month with a ‘three movies out’ plan. This works if you receive the discs the day after they are send to you and vice versa.

 How unlimited is unlimited?

Unlimited is hardly ever unlimited and also in this case you should take it with a grain of salt. The companies know very well that due the postal service it takes time to get you a new DVD out. This means that there is a practical limit to unlimited. It just depends on how quick they send out the discs and how quick the postal service is able to get the movies at your place.

How free is the free postage?

Of course this is already calculated in the plan fee but you don’t have to expect any hidden costs.
